After Sam pulls Dean out of Hell, Dean stops talking. It takes a week for Sam to convince Dean to open his mouth so Sam can check that his tongue hasn’t been cut out. It takes two weeks for Sam to accept that Dean really isn’t talking. Then it takes a week of silence, the two of them sitting in the Impala like ventriloquist dummies, sitting in motel rooms like human taxidermy, before Sam decides to start talking for the both of them. Intense and powerful in its progression and development. For all that it is au-ish and different, it has a darkly realistic quality to it that is very atmospheric of the show. Fantastic writing and a gripping plot. I, of course, can't *not* mention the heated burn of hot sex.

John, Sam and Dean move into their first home after Mary. Sam refuses to sleep and John begins to suspect there's something sinister in the house. Oh wow. Ok, so this is not at all my typical thing, but I really really liked it. There are so many tiny details that just click for me. First, it starts off with saying that John and the boys have been on the road for 2 years trying to out run the thing that is after them. I have to tell you that goes a long way with me understanding John as a parent. I have always had one issue with John - that he chose revenge over his sons. (I love John, I'm not character bashing.) But this really makes since to me. That it might not have started as this burning revenge thing -that might have built slowly as he had to run and hide and protect Sam and Dean. It makes me like him *more* to think of it like this. Also, the idea of little Sam having such a hard time settling down in an actual home for any length of time after spending so much of his short life constantly on the move feels really natural to me. I don't know this author, but I think they did a wonderful job of understanding little children. Anyway, its weeSammy and big brother Dean (a little) and daddy John - there are no overly syrupy cute moments, just a snapshot of what life really might have been like for them.

He's sweet and polite, but you can already see the cocky confidence layered over his worries and insecurities. And Little Sammy - holding on tight to Big Brother but too smart for his own good so he just *has* to tell it all. And the Principal's reaction is pretty much how every woman reacts, and how can they not with those two boys?

It's a well established fact that I am a huge fan of vamphile's fic and this is right up there at the top of the list of my favs. I believe I made that clear right after just the first couple of chapters and I wasn't wrong - it was great from start to finish. Solid, crisp writing and interesting AU setting and a Jensen that is completely captivating.

All I can hear in my head is Louis Armstrong's rasping gravelly voice singing "...Bright blessed days...dark sacred nights. And I think to myself...what a wonderful world." The other lyrics of the song don't have anything to do with it, but those just keep filtering through my head. Honestly, the writing style in this is not anything like the things I typically enjoy, but this one really is beautiful. Its poetic and lyrical, with a burning and heat that inflames from under the skin. Its all feeling and touch and hedonistic warmth.

But then maboheme has that gift, you know? Bedtime Stories is one of the most lovely little Jensen&Jared pieces I've ever read. Again, that hedonistic warmth and poetic rhythm slide over your skin, only in this one tender and sloppy with a lightness that infuses the best kind of J2 stories. As it tells you, these are the kinds you listen to. Absolutely lovely, both of them.

Yes, its feels dirty hot wrong (YUM), but it also has layers of love, angst and *Winchester*. You can see these two boys fighting so hard to be a family, hanging so tightly to what little they have. And Dean, doing the absolute best he knows how to take care of Sam, to make sure Sam never feels wrong or like a freak. And the sexual discovery, wooboy. Yeah, that part is completely YUM.

This is a flashback fic, posted over two years ago that is totally worth a revisit. felisblanco's stories have a way of twisting your heart around in just the right way. Making you ache at how life for the Winchesters is/was. Sam's desperate wanting to not be what John turning hiim - them - into and Dean's earnest attempts at being what everyone else needs him to be - makes you want to *whimper* at the angst of it all.

This is easily one of the best AUs in fandom. I doubt there is anyone that read my journal that hasn't read this fic. I just happen to click on it today by accident and got caught up in it again. I think I've actually read it like 4 times - yes, its that good. I keep thinking I need to say something profound about a story of this caliber to try to do it justice with a description. But really, I don't need to. The very few that haven't read it can look at the many hundred - srsly - of comments to know that its a beautiful, amazing well written story. I've already posted about this story, but I figured anything I've read four times deserves another go.

So here is the deal, there was a recent post on spnstoryfinders asking for hurt Dean or something like that. Anyway, the topic interests me and there were a ton of links. I'm going through them. Some are really good. I'm still working through so there may be more to come.


We Belong Together by not_refined

Wincest AU. Sam and Dean, growing up and growing closer together in the ordinary world. I'm not sure how I missed posting about this when I read it almost a year ago. But when I stumbled across it again I found it tore me up just as much the second time around. Hauntingly beautiful. Dean being fragile like this makes my heart clinch. I love how wonderful John is to both the boys in this. Anyway, I'm sure most people have read it as not_refined is well known for some really amazing stories. Like the Still Life 'verse. The damage done to Dean only makes him more beautiful. The innocence and struggle of life that make up the fabric of Dean and Sam's life in that story is breathtaking. These two stories just really touch something deep in me.

Jared thinks his life sucks (even if he denies feeling bad about). He starts college, which he didn't want and he swears he will not make friends there. But then he meets another student, a boy with emerald eyes, who draws and draws, and draws . . . Jensen is an amazing artist, he's mysteriously shy, and Jared finds himself fascinated to the point of obsession. Can anyone explain to me why stories like this are so immensely intriguing to me? I mean, yes, the writing is good and I like the characters and all that, but why is young, confused Jared and a 'damaged' Jensen so mesmerizing? (And I mean that in terms of 'damaged!Jensen', not as in someone with his disability being damaged, k?) Is it the childlike innocence that somehow can merge and weave seamlessly with mature, adult actions? I honestly don't know why, but stories like this always snag my attention. When they are written well then its a win-win for me - this was, btw, a win-win.

A miscommunication results in a hurt 10-year-old Dean and a heart-to-heart between Sam and John. AU - deaf!Dean. Schmoop! This is a short little thing, but it is absolutely touching and darling. Little Sam was adorably cute, Dean is more of a concept - and him being deaf is just plain interesting to me, and John is very John, but maybe he'll get a clue in this world. Anyway, I really really wish this were a larger 'verse. The author did the characters great and I love the emotion of the story.

The demon-worshiping cult that John has been tracking chooses Sam’s Middle School as their target. But John doesn’t know that there’s already another investigator on the case. Medium crossover (but pre-series, so not necessary to know anything about Medium). Um ,wow. Ok, this is so far out my normal range. Its pre-series (Sam is 13). It really is a case fic. No sex, no schmoop, no nuthin' I usually read. Not even like adorable Bebe Sam or anything. Its a straight out action case-fic. With humans, not supernatural creature, no less. But man! Its pretty fucking amazing. It really vibrates with the feel of the show. I can *see* this John Winchester perfectly. I can really see this happening, it reads smooth and clean and carries the very essence of each of the characters. Fast paced and intense, I hung on to every word. I loved how Sam and Dean really can show their training, yet not be perfect and still make mistakes. I like how much effort the writer put into letting us understand how someone who was raised with the boys training could asses a situation and what they see that 'normal' people don't. I just was an all around really good gen read. Notice its got a R rating- again, this isn't for sex. (which is my usual MO) This would totally be a Red Dawn R rating.

Five times Sam was Dean’s voice, and one time he wasn’t. This is really very lovely. Dean is deaf, has been his whole life. Sam speaks for him. John's a little more brutal in this world than I really see him as, but it fits perfectly here. The connection, the loyalty and love between the boys is beautiful. The writing is minimalistic, but still very descriptive. I love how although Dean is still the big brother and takes care of Sam, in this world Sam's been taking care of Dean too. It makes me wonder if this Sam wouldn't gone off to college. I don't think so. I don't think he would leave Dean, but I'm not the writer and that part isn't in there. Truly precious read.

Castiel tries to make Sam see what he has. So this is really short, but its got some really strong emotions flowing through it. The flashbacks themselves are painful and heart wrenching, but to have Sam know and understand how much his big brother loves him is even more so. And the longing and angst oozing from Castiel might just make you gasp a little.

Remember When You Had My Name Scratched On Your Heart by verbalavalanche

It goes in this order: Sam, Mom, Dad, God. *deepbreath* Damn, this fucking about killed me. So heartbreaking. Beautiful and poetic, but so very painful and heart wrenching. And what sucks is that you finally figure out that Dean is choosing this path for himself, denying himself his heart. The tiny flashback to little Dean with Mary just about cracked my heart in two.

You’re working with four out of five senses, John always tells him. Four out of five. Those are Sam’s numbers, the definition of his being, the handicap that describes who he is, the only thing he’s ever going to be. Beautiful and very well done story. Somewhat haunting and broken, but yet also not... Just a story about a family and their lives, the good and the bad. I love that Dean and Sam are just as close in this world as in canon - that they 'talk' so much. I love that they fight like any other brothers, but still love with that special Winchester fierceness. The last one makes you hate and pity John at the same time. Yet you know John wouldn't be so fucked up if he didn't love so very intensely. Just like his boys.

When you were five, you met your father for the first time. This is not in a style I usually care for. Its stark with almost no dialog. But its very well down - there is a stillness to it, like a lake of deep pain that is so full but still and quiet on the surface. Its sad, but with a hopeful ending. It makes you stop and think and visualize what Dean is perceiving, all the while telling you exactly how it is in a detached sort of feel.

I am not a big fan of Evil!Sam or Sam as the 'antichrist'. (In fic, lets not talk about the show, k?) And although the sex is technically 'het', it really is Sam/Dean Wincest.
However, I don't want to sound like I didn't like it. britomart_is is a talented writer and made a plot I wouldn't normally care for a good read. Quality writing is kind of awesome like that. And if you do happen to like Evil!Sam then you really will love this.

This is actually set in the middle of big epic series that isn't really my cup of tea, but there are few pieces that focus on little Sam or Dean that are absolutely precious. Like this one. Little Sammy just makes your ovaries tingle! There are a few more, like It's What You Do that can stand alone and are just heartbreaking snapshots of the boys growing up. They make me want to grab the boys and hold them tight and then maybe shake John Winchester within an inch of his life for choosing hunting and revenge over being a real father.

~I'm not going to go on and on about how much I *squee*-ed and *gushed* when I saw this. I think we all ADORE this series, don't we? Yeah, this part does NOT disappoint, I promise! And the sex!!! I love it when no two sex scenes are alike. When the couple is dynamic enough to be close in a variety of ways. Makes for a HOT! read too. Of course, the schmoop is amazing and sweet and perfectly balanced by the usting and angsting. *happysigh*

~ A unique plot with a feel good message. The author did a good job of showing Jensen's natural progression into someone new with the slivers of Jensen's memories curving the development in just the right way.

Jensen's life isn't perfect, but he's happy enough. He has friends (well, one friend and one roommate), a prospective career (if he can pass this stupid, stupid test which requires him to be able to talk to people), a sex life of sorts (with guys who are total jerkfaces and think Jensen is a dork, which is actually true), and a life-size Dalek costume with a voice modulator which lets him EXTERMINATE things (like the toaster). Then, out of nowhere, he also has Jared (gorgeous, wonderful, socially retarded, and already taken), and his life turns upside down in the blink of an eye. For the first time, Jensen has found what he wants, but how is he going to get it?
~ Why do I love this fic? Because I adore massive amounts of schmoopiness. Because Geek Jensen is the cutest thing Ever. Because boys who fart and love watching LoTR and Firefly are real boys. So.. just because.

~ I'm not big on politics and political fics can sometimes be a pain for me because I don't 'get it'; however this story was great! It was politically savvy, but written so I could easily follow it. It was fun and fast paced and interesting.

We get a little further from perfection each year on the road. Future fic: 5 years hence. Sam and Dean are still learning how to go on living. This story has some great characters - the original characters were well fleshed out, Jo and Ellen solid and Sam and Dean well done. And Jordy is a doll. The case they work on flows well within the plot of the real story and is easily something that could be on the show. Filled with confusion, devotion, hesitation and all sorts of complex emotions the relationship between the boys is painful and sweet - lovely, just lovely.

Not to mention, a great crossover where all the characters were completely IN character. The plot was also steady and true. Just all around nice job.
There is also a sequel Hell, and Back that you will want to read as well.

Hell, yeah. This is an awesome RP real-to-life kinda romance fic, although an J2 AU. The boys meet, the boys date, the boys angst, they have sex. Life is of the good. There were a few times I wanted to slap Jared upside the head for his angsty-emo shit, but then I thought to what it would be like for a 17 year old in his first serious relationship and figured he probably deserved it for a while. Its angsty tension driven set up leaves you rather breathless, srsly! Anyway, this amazing and long story kept me from cleaning house today. (Such a tragedy, let me tell ya'!)


We Must Reinvent Love by _mournthewicked
A J2 highschool AU- gotta love 'em. With high school graduation less than two weeks away, best friends Jared and Jensen find themselves scrambling to tie up a few loose ends before they’re forced into adulthood. Jared ropes Jensen into helping him get the alcohol for Sandy's graduation party, and what should be a simple night of partying ends up turning into a series of mishaps and misunderstandings that all come to head when Jensen finally tells Jared the secret he wasn't ever planning on spilling. If high school has to end, they're going out with a bang As the author says in the warnings: unapologetic schmoop and a dash of teenage angst. Highly enjoyable. And first-time sex! *purrs* (Okay, perfect not realistically awkward first time sex, but still yummy!) I totally asked the writer for more.

...OH! And then I found out there is another part to this! Sort of a summer in love thing. The boys are sexin' and lovin' and coming out to their color-me-not-shocked parents. Its schmoop, but its well written and hot schmoop. Oh- and it so helps to have Kane's actual song playing when you read a certain part - you'll know. *fans self*

One plot point I really really love about this 'verse - Jeff and Josh. I love the AUs with the boys in high school. What I really never see are interactions with the brothers. Usually its just them gone off to college and only showing up here and there. In this Jared and Jensen are the same age, so Jeff and Josh are too. In fact, they are best friends. Its really cool. I'd love to see more of this kind of thing. And if you straighten out their ages, wouldn't Jeff and Jensen be close to the same age? I've only read one good fic that had them as friends as a way for Jared to meet Jensen. I think it would be totally cool to read more of that!
~ I have been told there is a college years planned for this fic so I'll keep watching!

Okay this is a rec and a request.

Five Times John Was a Wonderful Father by felisblanco is lovely short fic. Heart warming and some heart wrenching moments. Lovely. The very last bit is a small glimpse of Wincest. John sees his boys together - wow, kudos to the writer because in two paragraphs we see inside a whole world of beautiful Sam&Dean, aching, yearing and loving.

So my request is this- I really like the idea of John being with the boys while they are together. (Not with they boys - this fandom doesn't do my daddy kink, srsly.) I've read a few - but I'd love some recs. So, go read this and get an idea of what I mean and if anyone cares to point me towards more...

Its pieces like A Slow Cadence that make me fall a little bit more in love with the fanon Jensen Ackles. He's broken and beautiful and so full of want and need that he doesn't even know about.

This is an AU fic where Mary didn't die and the boys don't hunt things. The writing was decent, but I loved the world that was created more than anything. There are 5, not 2, Winchester boys. Each with their own quirks and personalities. However, there is still and always will be a 'Dean and Sam'. I was late to work because I just really wanted to finish this one.

Hmm. I'm not usually one for the 'weecest'. Again, its so odd what I like in this fandom. I really liked just turned 15/16 Draco/Harry.But this is really good. And hot hot hot. I kinda feel a bit dirty reading it, much less liking it. Te. One thing that I found unusual was that it wasn't Sam running after Dean basically begging him for it. Dean was obsessed with Sam. Nicely different.

Okay, so this is sorta the 'weecest' here too, as Sam's underage. But its the more traditional setting in that Sam's in love/lust with Dean and Dean doesn't get it. Still, the writing is absolutely amazing. And the sex is hot. There is an OMC that sorta freaks me out - he's well done and fits great with the story. The concept of him just freaks me out! But I think the writer was going for that. John's kind of a jerk, but its from Sam's POV (not really POV, but his side of things) so it's expected. There were also some endearing and funny brotherly moment (John's sex talk with Dean and Dean's with Sam - very cute.)

Very beautiful fic. The writer's description is: He thought it would help Sam let go. Very hot, but touching scenes. I'm on meds for the cold or I'd give more detail. Point is - really nice simple Wincest read. Some underage as it begins when Sam is 16, if that matters to you.
