After Sam pulls Dean out of Hell, Dean stops talking. It takes a week for Sam to convince Dean to open his mouth so Sam can check that his tongue hasn’t been cut out. It takes two weeks for Sam to accept that Dean really isn’t talking. Then it takes a week of silence, the two of them sitting in the Impala like ventriloquist dummies, sitting in motel rooms like human taxidermy, before Sam decides to start talking for the both of them. Intense and powerful in its progression and development. For all that it is au-ish and different, it has a darkly realistic quality to it that is very atmospheric of the show. Fantastic writing and a gripping plot. I, of course, can't *not* mention the heated burn of hot sex.

John, Sam and Dean move into their first home after Mary. Sam refuses to sleep and John begins to suspect there's something sinister in the house. Oh wow. Ok, so this is not at all my typical thing, but I really really liked it. There are so many tiny details that just click for me. First, it starts off with saying that John and the boys have been on the road for 2 years trying to out run the thing that is after them. I have to tell you that goes a long way with me understanding John as a parent. I have always had one issue with John - that he chose revenge over his sons. (I love John, I'm not character bashing.) But this really makes since to me. That it might not have started as this burning revenge thing -that might have built slowly as he had to run and hide and protect Sam and Dean. It makes me like him *more* to think of it like this. Also, the idea of little Sam having such a hard time settling down in an actual home for any length of time after spending so much of his short life constantly on the move feels really natural to me. I don't know this author, but I think they did a wonderful job of understanding little children. Anyway, its weeSammy and big brother Dean (a little) and daddy John - there are no overly syrupy cute moments, just a snapshot of what life really might have been like for them.

He's sweet and polite, but you can already see the cocky confidence layered over his worries and insecurities. And Little Sammy - holding on tight to Big Brother but too smart for his own good so he just *has* to tell it all. And the Principal's reaction is pretty much how every woman reacts, and how can they not with those two boys?

I realize this has been rec'd to high heaven, but it really is that good and really does deserve to be again. There's love and sex and friendship and angst and schmoop and family and just all sorts of stuff that any J2 fan will eat up. Add in that maerhys is a really good writer its a win, you know. I read it in the chronological order as a continuous story, but each snapshot does have its own flow and ebb, its own feel and distinctiveness - I think that even adds to the story actually.

Jensen is an ex-con with a clean slate. Jared owns an MMA gym. They like each other, a lot. It's a well established fact that I am a huge fan of vamphile's fic and this is right up there at the top of the list of my favs. I believe I made that clear right after just the first couple of chapters and I wasn't wrong - it was great from start to finish. Solid, crisp writing and interesting AU setting and a Jensen that is completely captivating.

It is hard to describe, but then Jensen (in the story) probably feels that way all the time so it really lends itself to helping the reader to 'feel' Jensen, even when parts are told from Jared's perspective. The link takes you to a master post and you can read it either as it is written or in linear order. I chose linear.

In medieval days, a peasant has no standing in society according to the nobles So then why does Sir Ackles suddenly take an interest in peasant-boy Jared? Is it Jared's dream finally coming true, or something else...? Its a fairy tale, as in an actual fairy tale. Which was kinda cool in its uniqueness. Its not the most 'in-character' piece I've ever read, but I'm just a sucker for happily ever after schmoop!

So, overall, Jared was not especially surprised that he’d fallen in love with Jensen suddenly. He was a little shocked that he’d fallen in love with Jensen. Who was, OK, sort of blindingly pretty, but you got over that once you figured out that he would rather buy new underwear than wash the old ones (sometimes, Jared got annoyed with him and did his laundry, it made sense to him). A lovely cute little story about falling in love with your best friend. About knowing someone. Did I mention how cute it is?

So here is the deal, there was a recent post on spnstoryfinders asking for hurt Dean or something like that. Anyway, the topic interests me and there were a ton of links. I'm going through them. Some are really good. I'm still working through so there may be more to come.

Wincest AU. Sam and Dean, growing up and growing closer together in the ordinary world. I'm not sure how I missed posting about this when I read it almost a year ago. But when I stumbled across it again I found it tore me up just as much the second time around. Hauntingly beautiful. Dean being fragile like this makes my heart clinch. I love how wonderful John is to both the boys in this. Anyway, I'm sure most people have read it as not_refined is well known for some really amazing stories. Like the Still Life 'verse. The damage done to Dean only makes him more beautiful. The innocence and struggle of life that make up the fabric of Dean and Sam's life in that story is breathtaking. These two stories just really touch something deep in me.

Jared thinks his life sucks (even if he denies feeling bad about). He starts college, which he didn't want and he swears he will not make friends there. But then he meets another student, a boy with emerald eyes, who draws and draws, and draws . . . Jensen is an amazing artist, he's mysteriously shy, and Jared finds himself fascinated to the point of obsession. Can anyone explain to me why stories like this are so immensely intriguing to me? I mean, yes, the writing is good and I like the characters and all that, but why is young, confused Jared and a 'damaged' Jensen so mesmerizing? (And I mean that in terms of 'damaged!Jensen', not as in someone with his disability being damaged, k?) Is it the childlike innocence that somehow can merge and weave seamlessly with mature, adult actions? I honestly don't know why, but stories like this always snag my attention. When they are written well then its a win-win for me - this was, btw, a win-win.

Little Sam was adorably cute, Dean is more of a concept - and him being deaf is just plain interesting to me, and John is very John, but maybe he'll get a clue in this world. Anyway, I really really wish this were a larger 'verse. The author did the characters great and I love the emotion of the story.

You know my favorite books are always the ones that are in layers - where you can read it and take it at face value and enjoy it or you can think deeper and get even more out of it, maybe even something really different. For all that this is a tiny tiny little thing - like a drabble - it has that. On top it is adorably sweet. I just want to *smoosh* bebe Sammy and Wee Dean. But for me, I see some real depth in the subtext. Dean's sick and where is John? Also, the last line has a world of meaning for me.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed this tiny morsel.

I think its maybe cause its so easy to envision him all sweaty with touches of soot - and that is just drool-worthy right there. Yummm. Anyway, Light My Fire and the sequel, Playing with Fire, are just filled with drama and action and sex. Making it an overall fun read!

You know I kept reading all the recs for this fic - there were a lot of them. But for some reason I just didn't click. I don't know why. I knew it had to be a decent fic because everyone raved about it. And then I decided what they hell, I'll read a little and see if I even like it. That was several hours ago. I was wrong. It isn't a decent fic. It isn't a really good fanfic.
Its an amazing story, an incredible story of two men and the triumph of the human spirit. Its the kind of story they make movies about. Its the kind of overwhelmingly beautiful journey that leaves you with a longing for something greater in life, something deeper and more meaningful. I've read a couple of fics set in Africa now, and when done right they never fail to capture your heart and soul. This one does it exceptionally well.



The Disconnect by a_carnal_mink

There were probably a million things not right about this relationship and maybe only a couple that weren't entirely wrong, but Dean felt like they just might be able to make it. I'm not sure why this isn't touted as one of the classics in SPN fandom. It's a fucking fantastic story. Set in season 2, it has spot-on amazingly perfect characterizations and literally *feels* like the real thing. While being Wincest it flows perfectly and seamlessly into canon. Its gorgeous and beautiful and it will totally make you fall in love with Sam and Dean Winchester all over again. It has the things that make a Wincest story 'real' and amazing; a slow, very natural progression of the boys' relationship while managing an impressive balance between being lovers and being brothers. Just so you know, I won't say it has a sad ending but I will say that every part of of it holds up to canon and in the style of Kripke's Supernatural.

There are ten rules about interoffice dating and Jared Padalecki pretty much fails at all of them. It happens like this: Jared works in a cubicle. Jensen is the oblivious engineer. Jared meets Jensen. Jared falls in love with Jensen. Jensen… needs a little coaxing. Also starring Chad the Maintenance Guy, Danneel in Payroll, Tom as the mildly disgruntled Mail Room Guy and Mike in HR. And Misha the Receptionist? Still ruining lives. Mostly Tom’s. And Jared’s. But mostly Tom’s (who deals with it like any rational person would: mail bombs and spiked coffee). Ohmigawd, I just totally love this. The cutest little romance! A teeny tiny bit of angsty-usting as all truly good romances have. I don't have much more to say really, it was just such a good romcom! Simple as that. Jared is adorkable cute, Misha is perfectly spot-on, (Chad is the perfect douche), and Jensen is hot as the shy quiet type - lol, in other words, hot as Jensen usually is! *grins*

They've known each other Jared's entire life...this is a story of love, denial and prejudice - and reflecting back through their time together. You know what I really like about this story - I mean, it is a decent read with some schmoop, some pretty hot sex, a nice dose of hurt/comfort to give it some angsting and tension - but what I really like is how Jared and Jensen refer to the other as their husband. They aren't technically married because of state laws, but they had a ceremony and consider themselves married. Now, I know that may not seem like a big deal. But its the way the term is used. Not overly done, but when needed to make a statement "You forgot to mention I'm married!" or the casual use of 'husband'. I don't know, I just like it. I keep telling you guys, I'll read the kinkiest kink that ever kinked, but if you really wanna get my gears going then give me VANILLA baby - domestic fics with laundry, children and trying to get a quicky in without waking up your in-laws. *shakes head* I'm sure Dean would act very disappointed. (Which I think would be an act - I think Dean Winchester always has makes sweet luv behind closed doors and its Little Sammy that gets rough and kinky in the back alleys!)

Its so very AU, with robots and living on a spacecraft, but it is also so very much 'in-character'. A total WIN for this fic.

Par for the course, almost nothing goes as planned. Witnesses, tag-along’s and death converge on a Manor House where fear reigns. For the Dead Keep Naught and the Winchesters have no intention of letting death win. I really liked the interaction between the boys in this one. I think it reads very natural as them. The story does sort of jump into it with them already having a history it seems like, but that doesn't distract from the story. This is a 'case fic' and the case is pretty cool and spooky. I love Sam's jealousy in this. It also has a 'dating' feel to a lot of the scenes which is just *SQUEE*! So yeah, a bit of drama and angst, some spooky MoW, some awkward adorable boys - its an episode all right. Oh wait - then there's the hot sex, so that makes it the episode Kripke *wishes* he could air. LOL

Jared has never known life outside of his family or the Covenant, and he is drawn to Jensen irrevocably. Jared wants so badly for Jensen to accept his new life, to stay with him. For the newly initiated Jensen, the Covenant is a living nightmare that he wants to escape- with Jared, if he can. This story contains religious aspects, as scripture is twisted to meet the needs of men. Oh I really love interestingly new settings for AU stories. Never thought I would see *this* scenario in a J2 fic, but that was half the fun of the read! Its so easy to see Jensen as this beaten, scrappy street smart kid. It should be a 'dark fic' because of all of the abuse. (Read the warnings, btw, to be sure its your cuppa.) And the life Jensen has lead, but the relationship between the teenaged Jared and Jensen is sweet and light, for all that is hot and heavy(!).

Jared Padalecki is a high class business man, Jensen Ackles is a high class prostitute. But this is no Pretty Woman remake; when Jensen's diagnosed with cancer, Jared decides he has to look after Jensen, even if Jensen doesn't want to be looked after by his former client and it's not long before their strictly business relationship becomes very complicated. Who doesn't love a J2 hurt/comfort schmoop fic? The angst is light, but enough to give it a balance so the schmoop isn't too sugary sweet. The author deals respectfully to the idea of Jensen struggle with cancer and there is, of course, a happy ending. This was a nice easy read to kick back with after a long day at work, ya' know?

This is basically just Jared and Jensen living together. And how they are - how we wished they are, I should say. The feel of everything and the characterizations have such a realistic vibe you can almost hear their voices. This is a lovely understated story. You don't really even see the power of it coming because it all seems so normal, but then you get the implications that simple little things have and it just squeezes you right *there*. I think what touched me the most was Jensen reading the grocery list - their grocery list and how that simple thing just clicked it for him.

And Jensen may have the best intentions at heart but he doesn’t really know what he’s doing. Like, not at all.

I loved it! I love that the characters were flawed - not perfect people. That Chris showed is roots by not being okay with a gay best friend (I live in Oklahoma and just how Bible-belted it is, dude!). I love that Jared wasn't the perfect smiling person that is always understanding and trying to make people happy - the guy was traumatized and physically tortured. He has the right to act petty and difficult. It's normal! I love that Jensen, while amazing, is a bit of a jerk. I think he's probably used his looks to get away with murder his whole life, like knowing the Doc isn't really going to make him stop smoking! (Like those super cute boys in school that would grin at the middle-aged teacher and she would huff and hide a grin and then not punish them for something anyone else would have been punished for - yeah, I can see Jensen as one of those boys! LOL).

Anyway, the point is I thought the characterizations were great and that is what made the story so much fun to read!

So..yeah.

Jared never gave much thought to what he was going to do with the rest of his life, but now that the only thing anyone ever talks about is where they're going to school next year, he guesses he has to figure it out. Man, is there anything better than finding out that an awesome fic now has a just as awesome sequel? If you read Dirt on Our Uniforms then you'll love this Big Bang sequel. Its so awesomely schmoopy! And dude! has one of the hottest phone sex scenes ever! *drools*

While the basic plot device is actually a hodgepodge of things (see author notes), the over all story is completey unique as a J2 fanfic. I loved that! Completely implausible and unrealistic - but it doesn't matter! In this story we have the "Jensen&Jared forever" concept that can NEVER be broken. That's the stuff sugary-sweet dreams are *made* of!

We get a little further from perfection each year on the road. Future fic: 5 years hence. Sam and Dean are still learning how to go on living. This story has some great characters - the original characters were well fleshed out, Jo and Ellen solid and Sam and Dean well done. And Jordy is a doll. The case they work on flows well within the plot of the real story and is easily something that could be on the show. After their plane crashes over the ocean, stranding them on an unfamiliar island, Jared and Jensen have to learn to survive - both the island and each other. Want to read a fantastic j2 story? This! This! This! There is no bad here, only WIN. The story concept is great, the carry through perfect, the character interaction and development completely wonderful. Although not written in first person, the story is seen from Jensen's perspective. His characterization was flawless. Not Jensen himself, because his flaws and downfalls are what make him human and so deeply attractive! But the author's take on him. And Jared, oh poor baby. Anyway, this is what I wrote in my comment to the author:

"You all right?" Jared asks, a quiet mutter against Jensen’s ear. His breath is warm and quick and Jensen presses his hips down, just so he can feel Jared gasp against his skin. The author says this is an older fic that was posted on another journal, but I have never read it and don't know the journal. So I don't know how old this actually is. It has to be at least a year or so because the boys aren't living together yet. Anyway, its hot. This is a way that two straight boys from Texas might figure out that they aren't gay, they just have each other. As Jensen notes often, it isn't a problem it just is. The writing is kind of stilted and broken, but that adds a layer of confusion and unknown wanting to the characters. .... Ok, that doesn't sound right. Its hard to explain. Maybe its that the writing is a bit stark and that only adds to the appeal of the fic. Anyway, there is great sex but also a close friendship and wanting and usting going on here that I really liked.

Dean always cries after sex with Sammy. I would say this is PWP because it all happens during sex, but its not. There *is* a plot there. We just don't know what it is. But there are layers beyond what is happening in the fic, you can totally tell that. This is also 'dub-con', but in a unique way. This is ... well, here is the comment I left to the author:

Being a Texas boy Jared Padalecki couldn’t care less about ice hockey. So Jared is slightly lost, when his new roommate Chad is the biggest fan on campus. But when he gets to tutor the most infamous player of the college team, things start to get downright scary. Jensen Ackles has a reputation for aggression control problems and Jared has no idea how to get through the semester without either falling for the handsome man or ending up in a fistfight he’d be sure to lose. Is there a reason I didn't post this a couple of weeks ago when I first read it? I can't imagine why. But whateva, I'm a dork. So, this is a perfect example of a new J2 AU in the classic style. A nice long light hearted read, with just enough usting and angst to keep it interesting. Also a bit of action on the hockey rink - which I'm not a fan of hockey, but this fic makes me think I might like it. *grin* Also, Jensen is pretty badass tough guy here and that is always worth taking time for!

Dean's always hustled for their living. And he was getting pretty good at it. But not everyone is a good loser and Dean's discovered being good at one thing meant being tragically wrong about the other. And when the healing begins, will the boys find their way back to each other? Just to start off with, this is a whopper of a fic. Over 165,000 words. Yeah, make sure you've got some time for this one. You should also know that some of the warnings for it are: Graphic Torture, Graphic Violence, Non-Con/Rape. So yeah, its not a happy fic - although that isn't to say there isn't a happy ending. Basically the boys are taking by bad guys and are then tortured and raped. The story is, by nature of the plot, dark and graphic. However, it has some great interaction between Sam and Dean that I totally fell for. Its the unwavering devotion that endures this fic to me. And while the non-con does nothing for me, later on the Sam/Dean sexin is pretty damn not. And, at times, completely cute.

Sam and Dean from John's POV. I am also submitting this over at crack_impala as well, but I wanted to write more about it than I have space for over there. This fic combines two of absolute favorite themes of Supernatural fanfic - Sam and Dean just always naturally being Sam&Dean and 'John knows'. *happysigh* Okay, so this fic starts out pretty much from birth with glimpses of how John sees Sam and Dean up through Season 1. We only get the tiniest of glimpses of them being Sam&Dean, but John is well aware of just how close the boys grow up to be. Its got some charmingly sweet moments of the boys growing up and some painful ones later on. Dean's anguish over Sam leaving is just lovely.


Louder Than Words 'Verse by splashpink
The Epic Romance (c) of deaf!Jensen and actor!Jared, complete with cast of chaotic, neurotic, and downright certifiable friends. Oh so much to adore in this 'verse. A ton of adorably funny shots with 'aww geez' schmoopy sadness coupled with a unique plot and topped off with the fragile hella-hot young-ish Jensen (think before Dean's toughness made him more 'manly' seeming) make it a great read. Jensen is just one symptom of the disease he suffers from and the hurt!Jensen factor is nicely done here. In a twist I've not come across before the story actually starts off with Jensen dating Jared's long-time friend David Boreanaz. Its, of course, a complete AU universe. Jared does play Sam Winchester, but (and this is the only part that has me blinking disbelievingly) Marc Blucas plays Dean. (I know, I know! But there is very little 'Sam' or 'Dean'-ishness, its all about them as themselves.) So, yeah, kinda different, huh? I like it.

Ah, aren't we all getting to be suckers for Old Man! Sam and Dean? Yeah, I think so. They're so bittersweet, aren't they? All wonderful and touching and beautiful - and sweet and funny sometimes -, but like this one also painful to see those beautiful boys faded and weary. Yeah, the dimming of such vibrant and alive men makes us all hurt - and maybe feel a bit uncomfortable with our own mortality, hmm? So, bring a hanky for this one, you might just need it.

Together they have a chance. A J2 AU. I'm not sure what it is about broken boys that is just so enticing to read, but it really just pulls you in, doesn't it? These was a very sweet story, made even better for the touches of darkness and pain infused in it. The simplistic nature of their love is just lovely - its love and their is not usting or angsting over it because they aren't capable of such useless actions. Its pure and sweet and touching.
